Changes in Missions this Year
Changes in Missions this Year
The Missions action team decided at the end of 2015 to implement changes in the way that we live out our mission as a church in the world. Missions has been an area of strength for Trinity Church and the changes this team has made help us continue to strengthen this area of our discipleship. Over the last year, the Missions action team has noticed a drop in participation in the P52’s (or project 52). This program asked people to give to a variety of different ministries. This was a marvelous program to encourage people to think about giving to help others in a specific way. However over time, the number of areas to give has grown and the number of people donating has gone down, and some areas are receiving very little support. This problem is two-fold. One is that at this point the church has become an intermediary for other charities (i.e. McCurdy School, Red Bird Mission, and others). The second is that because we have so many different groups we are giving to we really are not supporting any one mission in a dynamic and active way. So, the group has decided to narrow down our support to only a few targeted ministries, allowing us to have a greater effect through our giving.
So what does this mean? In reality, many people will not see a change. The Missions team will still have two key events this year: They will have a rummage sale in the spring, April 22-23, and will participate in Apple Festival in the fall, October 1-2. The team is also working to discern which local and international ministries we can support in a powerful way, as well as, trying to find ways to help Trinity have a greater presence in Kendallville. The only major change is that Trinity will no longer act as a pass-through for the P-52 ministries. This is not to say that these are bad ministries, nor that you should not support those ministries, but that Trinity will not act as an intermediary in supporting these charities. If you have any questions about this feel free to contact Pastor Chris at the church or via e-mail at chris@trinitychurchum.org. These changes will help us to focus our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ in a more effective way. Be on the lookout for future missions’ updates as we focus our efforts in the world for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
