What’s Going On? By Pastor Chris
Many times in the church (universal,I am not naming names) we have made the mistake of working with a ministry for a time and moving on as if a relationship never existed. One of the things we are working on at our church is to continue the connection that we have built with the ministry of Quechua Benefit in Peru. It seems like a lifetime ago our Peru Team began meeting to steer us to build relationships with the people of Peru. We are continuing to work with Quechua Benefit as we sent over $1500 from our Operation Christmas Transformation to continue the relationships we built there. and we sent the first batch of birthday letters to the children of Casa Chapi.
We have been in communication with our team, our district of the UMC, and the head of Quechua Benefit as we continue to see how we can be praying for and working with as we equip and encourage their teachers, staff, and volunteers to continue to help the people of the Colca Valley. One of the ways we are doing that is to look into future trips with other churches to continue the tradition we started of taking the kids to Condor Cross and into Arequipa and buying them each a book. Especially after we heard from their leaders that the kids are exchanging their books and enjoying reading and learning in a way they have not before (because of the books you helped provide for them).
Another way we are working with the people of Quechua Benefit is by hosting a group that works closely with Quechua Benefit; the Matsiko World Orphan Choir. Here is a brief description about the make-up of the group:
Currently made up of some of the poorest orphaned and at-risk children from Peru, India, Liberia and Nepal, the Matsiko World Orphan Choir (the flagship vehicle of International Children’s Network – ICN) captures the hearts of all who hear their hope-filled message. The kids sing with such passion and meaning that their hope of overcoming tragedy and the life-changing effects of an education is truly inspiring. The Choir’s contagious energy and zeal shines through a powerful presentation of original songs, cultural dances, and multimedia testimony. Never before in the history of these four nations have orphaned or vulnerable children been allowed to travel outside of their nation. However, due to the great work of ICN for the children, a great trust has allowed this historic cultural opportunity to happen.
We will be hosting this group (meaning we will need help with housing) the week of June 10, with a concert culminating our time together on Sunday, June 16. Make sure to mark your calendars—this will be an amazing experience. We will also be giving more information about the choir as we give a portion of our Easter Transformation money to support the choir and its ministry of hope in a hurting world.
Please continue to write letters for our Quechua birthdays and pray for the teachers, staff, and volunteers of Quechua Benefits. As always, if you have any questions or would like to know more about how you can help, feel free to contact the church office or email me chris@trinitychurchum.org.
