What’s Going On (by Pastor Chris)
Some of you may have seen that we made a decision and then changed it surrounding our rummage sale. If you happened to be in church on May 20th, (If not you may be a bit confused by this article) then you saw or heard that we (the staff and leadership team) had made the decision to cancel this year’s rummage sale. But I (Pastor Chris) have changed this decision.
The reasoning behind this decision was multi-fold. In discussions with many of the leaders of the ministry they were unable to help because of current or developing health issues. On top of this we have a lot more work to do this year because of the work we have just finished in the Gathering Hall. During the process of remodeling the Gathering Hall we took the great effort to replace the rubber feet on all our tables and chairs (thank you Frederick Fusco) so that we do not damage our new floors. But we have a large number of racks that have no rubber feet and we will have to redevelop how we set up for the rummage sale because of this. And with just barely making (because of a lack of help) the rummage sale the last two years, we made the informed decision to cancel this year’s rummage sale.
However, sometimes thinking about losing something gives new life and energy to make it change for the future. This is exactly why I am changing my decision (well, provisionally). I was approached by a couple of folks that want to be champions (people who will provide their energy and leadership to guide and push this ministry forward) for the rummage sale. The key to this change of heart is not that they approached me with upset about how this decision was made but came saying that they wanted to do something to help make a change.
So now, why do I say “provisionally”? I say this because we have a lot of work ahead of us. And the folks who came to me are a great start, but they cannot do this on their own. You will start to see this change in our invitations to the congregation. It used to be in the past that we (as the staff or teams) set up events and asked you to take part. But we are changing to ask if anyone is interested in helping before we move forward on any project or ministry. This is because there have been times when our leaders have been left high and dry with a lack of help. So my “provisionally” revolves around whether we get enough help and enough folks who are willing to make the necessary physical and missional changes to help this ministry move forward. So there is a sign-up at the Ministry Center, and we will announce a rummage sale meeting in the next few weeks to begin planning, if we get enough interest. As always, if you have any questions feel free to contact the church office or e-mail me at chris@trinitychurchum.org.
